The Use of Cantrips

During their years of training, all wizards must first master the smallest of magics. These are the cantrips, minor spells which do not have much physical effect but help beginning wizards learn their craft.

In this campaign, cantrips are a wizardly proficiency. By the time he or she reaches first level, the use of this non-weapon proficiency has been mastered.

This proficiency allows the user, upon a successful proficiency check, to create minor magical effects, exactly like the cantrip spell in the Player's Handbook. The energy for these effects comes from the mystical aura surrounding every living creature. This is used primarily to make the wizard's life a little bit easier and to impress the common people.

Examples of some cantrip effects are:
Creating a tiny flame to light a candle
Creating a small light (enough to read a spellbook by)
Keeping away annoying small insects (mosquitoes, flies, etc.)
    Spicing up bland food
    Personal hygeine uses
Dusting off a book or shelf

Wizard characters gain this proficiency for free at first level. Characters of other classes can learn this proficiency, but it costs them proficiency slots. Even bards need to pay for this proficiency, but they can perform their spells without it.
