Familiars

Familiars are special companions to arcane spellcasters, and are most often small animals of some sort.

An arcane spellcaster may chose a familiar that is within one step of his own alignment along both the Good/Evil axis and Law/Chaos axis (a familiar's alignment changes to that of the spellcaster when first summoned). The level listed is the minimum spellcaster level a character must attain before he or she can select that type of familiar (gaining a familiar with a minimum level higher than 1st requires the Improved Familiar feat). Benefit is that granted to the spellcaster by his or her bond with the familiar. Familiars have all the special abilities and attacks that are standard for their species.
