Blade of the Nightslayer

This weapon is a very special short sword. It was crafted by an unlikely pair (a dwarven artist and an elven weaponsmith) for an unlikely hero (a halfling ranger...yes, ranger). The blade is forged from the purest of mithril and inscribed with both elven and dwarven runes. The hilt, carved from a single piece of flawless jade, is cut with the shapes of vines and leaves. A smooth cut emerald is set into the pommel and glows with a faint green light.

The original owner of this weapon used it for several decades in defense of the natural areas near his shire. He passed it on to one of his sons, who tried to follow in his father's footsteps, but was killed by a group of orcs. The blade was lost for nearly fifty years until it was found by a half-elven rogue, who sold the fine weapon to a couple of elves. The elves know of its history and abilities, and are looking for a suitable hero to once again wield it.

This weapon is a short sword designed specifically for a halfling. In the hands of any other being, it is a high quality, unbreakable weapon. When wielded by a halfling, it becomes a shortsword +1, bane of evil creatures. Once per day a halfling wielder can cause the blade to glow with green light and turn undead as a 7th level cleric (with a Charisma score equal to the wielder's).
