Araneae's Spider of False Sight
Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Sor/Wiz 6
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: One creature
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: Will negates (see text)
Spell Resistance: Yes

When a spellcaster uses this spell, she thows a large spider-shaped bit of magic at a single target. If she succeeds at a ranged touch attack, the magic spider bites the target. If the target fails a Will save, he suffers from a sense of sight that cannot be trusted. If the save is successful, the spell only lasts a single round.

The victim of this spell will immediately begin to see creatures, objects, and landscape that is not really present. At the same time, he will lose some ability to see things that are real. The victim has only a 50% chance of seeing a creature, object, or feature of the landscape that is real (such things are effectively under the effects of improved invisibility as far as the victim is concerned). The things real or imagined have an equal chance of being visible or non-visible each round. Since this spell actually affects the victim's mind, the things seen cannot be disbelieved like an illusion. Each imagined thing is real to the victim, except that the victim suffers only subdual damage from attacks from his imaginary foes (which vanishes as soon as the spell ends).

To others around the victim the situation may seem very strange. The victim may suddenly ignore them while trying to attack something unseen. The victim may attempt to run through a solid wall (where the victim sees no wall), or may walk off a cliff (where the victim sees a bridge). If the victim is in combat and turns to fight off an imaginary foe, his opponents may be able to attack as if flanking the victim.

Arcane Focus: Any piece of jewelry or artwork depicting one or more spiders.
