Araneae's Wall of Webs
Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Sor/Wiz 4
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect: Anchored plane of solid spider webs, or hemisphere of solid webs
Duration: 1 minute/level
Saving Throw: Reflex negates (See text)
Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell creates an anchored plane of solidified spider web or a hemisphere of this material, depending on the version selected at the time of casting. A wall of webs cannot form in an area occupied by physical objects of creatures. Fire, including fireball and the breath of a red dragon, can burn up a wall of webs, dealing full damage to the wall (instead of the normal half damage suffered by objects). Burning of the webs causes fire damage to all within 5 feet of the wall equal to 1d6 +1 point per level of the wall's caster.

Web Plane: A sheet of strong, solidified spider webs appears. The wall is 1 inch thick per caster level. It covers up to a 10-foot-square area per caster level (so a 10th level wizard can create a wall of webs 10 feet high and 100 feet long, or 20 feet high and 50 feet long). The caster can choose to double the thickness of the wall by halving the width or height of the wall. The wall can be oriented in any fashion as long as at least two opposing edges are anchored (a perfectly vertical wall need only be anchored at the base).

The wall is primarily defensive in nature. Each 10 foot square of wall has 5 hit points per inch of thickness. Creatures can hit the wall automatically, but the wall suffers only half damage from bludgeoning weapons and no damage from piercing weapons. A section of wall whose hit points drop to 0 is breached.

Hemisphere: A hemisphere of solidified spider webs appears, whose maximum radius is 5 feet +1 foot per caster level. It is just as thick as the plane of webs. Thus, a 10th level caster can create a dome 15 feet in diameter, and could double the thickness of the hemisphere by reducing the radius to 7.5 feet. The hemisphere is can be oriented in any manner so long as its "open" side is anchored to a surface.

A hemisphere can be created so that it traps one or more creatures, though these creatures can avoid being trapped by the hemisphere by making a successful Reflex save.

Material Component: A bit of spider web and a dead spider.
