When this spell is cast, a 3 inch diameter sphere of compact spider webs appears hovering above the caster's hand and immediately flies toward the target of the spell. The caster must succeed at a ranged touch attack or else the web orb misses its target and strikes the ground with no effect. Should the orb hit, it instantly bursts into a large mass of sticky spider webs which settles on the target creature and impedes its freedom of movement, causing a -1 penalty on attack rolls for 1 minute, after which the webs become brittle and fall off. Should fire be applied to the webs before the 1 minute is over, the webs immediately burn away causing 1 point of fire damage to the victim. Multiple castings of this spell are cumulative in effect, but not in duration.
