Bissel's Burning Bursary
Transmutation [Fire, Force]
Level: Sor/Wiz 1
Components: S, M
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect: 1 or 2 explosive coins
Duration: 1d4+1 round/level or until discharged
Saving Throw: See text
Spell Resistance: Yes
By enchanting a small metallic coin, the spell causes it to be transformed into a magical bomb that may then be hurled at an opponent or left as a trap. The caster can affect one coin at caster levels 1 through 5, and two coins at caster levels 6 and higher.
Once the coin has been imbued with magic, it can either be placed on a flat surface or thrown at an enemy. If left on a surface or held until the end of the duration, it explodes at the end of that time in a 5' radius burst of molten metal and force. It explodes with this same type of burst if thrown at an enemy, requiring a ranged touch attack to strike. A missed throw means the coin lands at the far end of the spell's range as a grenade like weapon, exploding when it hits the ground or another surface.
When it explodes, either at the end of the duration or when striking an enemy, the exploding coin inflicts damage based on the metal it is composed of. Half the damage is force damage, half is fire damage.
Copper - 1d4
Silver - 1d6
Gold - 2d4+2
Platinum - 2d8+4
Creatures caught within the burst get a Reflex save to avoid half the damage dealt. Anyone holding the coin in hand or directly struck by the coin, if thrown, does not gain the benefit of a save.
Material Component: One or two metallic coins.
