This powerful spell enables the caster to simply touch a written work (such as a book, spellbook, scroll, or even a carved relief filled with words) for a few moments and gain every bit of knowledge that he would have gained from actually reading the entire work. Spells such as read magic may have to be cast before this one to enable the spellcaster to read someone's spellbook or decipher a magic scroll.

The spellcaster is subject to any harmful magic contained in such a written work (he still may get a saving throw, but he automatically triggers such magical traps as fire trap). The caster of this spell can understand magical works such as a manual of bodily health, but such a work's effects do not take effect for the same amount of time it would have normally taken the caster to read it.

Any work that would be unaffected by normal reading is not changed by this spell. Works such as the manual of bodily health lose their magic as if read normally.
