Drake, Red
A relative of the terrible red dragon, the red drake is a smaller version, more wild and less intelligent. They range in color from rusty brown to deep crimson red, with scales harder than steel. They are the largest and most powerful of the drakes. Although winged, their mass prevents flight longer than brief gliding downward.Red drakes can and will live in any area with a large amount of rocky outcroppings and boulders. They often claim territories in mountain ranges and rocky deserts. Solitary creatures, they will only tolerate each other as a mated pair with a large cave for a lair. Red drakes can have a very big effect on any area they claim as territory. They will hunt any sort of large or medium creature they can find for food, and have no problem scavenging. These creatures are very territorial. They will fight any interloper to the death to defend their range. Combat: When attacking prey, red drakes will usually make use of their fearsome claws and teeth, striking with each once per round. Should they feel that they might be in danger, they will use their breath weapon. They do not flee battle, even when faced with death. Breath Weapon (Ex): Each red drake is able to exhale a cone of fire 20 feet long and 20 feet wide at the base up to once per minute. This fire inflicts 8d6 points of fire damage to anyone in the area. A successful Reflex save vs. DC: 17 indicates the victim suffers only half damage. Fire Immunity (Ex): Red drakes are totally immune to damage from any type of fire or heat. Spell Resistance (Ex): Red drakes are resistant to magical spells and effects, due to their draconic heritage. They have spell resistance 15.
