The Dragon's Choice
Award for Web Site Excellence

Over the past several years I have seen many sites out on the web that are very well designed and crafted. I think they deserve some recognition. The Dragon's Choice is an award given out to those web sites which I consider to be excellent. These personal sites display originality, creativity, and some of the personality of their designers. They are worthy of being a part of a dragon's treasures.

Many wonderful web sites have won this award since I started giving it out. To see all the sites which have won, just follow the links on the left of this page.

If you have a site of your own, or know of another's site, which you think deserves this award, feel free to submit it below. I now give out several versions of The Dragon's Choice. Applicants can request the award they want to get (Classic, Fire, or Ice). The purple Award of Magic cannot be applied for...I give it out in my wanderings of the web to sites that deserve it.

The Classic Award

Award of Fire

Award of Ice

Award of Magic

The following criteria, are taken into consideration when I judge sites. Anything with a + is good for a site to have, anything with a - makes it less likely a site will win.

Good:
+

Bad:
-

Criteria:
+ The site must have some real personality. No completely commercial sites allowed. Sites must show some of the creator's/owner's personality.
+ Sites must be original and creative. Pages that are just a bunch of links or just have your vacation pictures will be disqualified. Original content and design are essential.
-Profanity, sex, and/or graphic violence are not good. My site is suitable for people of any age, so any site I consider must be too.
+ The site must be properly viewable with Internet Explorer or Netscape. I never use AOL or WebTV, so it has to look good to me.
-Broken graphics...especially if loading from your server. Very bad.
-Stealing bandwidth...this is still an issue. Don't use anybody else's bandwidth without their permission.
+ Original and custom graphics are very helpful.
+ Decent loading time is good. If your site takes more than twice as long as mine to load, it's definitely going to count against you. I do understand net conjestion and take that into account.
-Music without controls for me. If your page uses music, I must have an easy way to shut it off if it starts to annoy me.
+-JavaScript and CSS can be an added bonus, but if it gives error messages or gets annoying, it's bad.
+-Frames can be good for a site, or they can ruin it. Keeping me in your frames is bad when I want to follow a link out of your pages.
+ The submission form below must be filled out completely and thoughtfully. The more I want to come see your site, the better.
+-Finally, the website must appeal to me in some way. If it just doesn't grab me somehow, it will not win. And just in case you're worried, I have a very broad range of interests.
