Hixon Forest Nature Center welcomes you to our world of birding, environmental education, hiking, prairie restoration and other wonderful events. The Nature Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness, understanding, enjoyment, and protection of local natural areas. These natural areas include forest, marsh, rare native prairies, bluffs, and rivers - all habitats of incredible numbers of wildlife. Hixon Forest Nature Center is located in La Crosse, Wisconsin. La Crosse is nestled between the banks of the beautiful Mississippi River and the scenic 500-foot bluffs. The Nature Center itself is tucked against the bluffs, just off the east side of Highway 16. The Nature Center offers many things to visitors. It has a large variety of interesting educational displays. It has maps and information about all parts of Hixon Forest and the La Crosse River Marsh. Entertaining and educational programs, including Summer Camps, are offered during different parts of the year. There is bird seed, t-shirts, bird feeders, and other merchandise for sale. There is usually one or more naturalists on hand to answer questions. Hixon Forest Nature Center is supported almost entirely by membership dues and contributions, grants, and individual gifts. Because we are a charitable organization, gifts of money, securities and land are tax deductible. Contact us to learn more about how you may be able to help. Feel free to stop by the Hixon Forest Nature Center for a hike and a look around at our wonderful natural areas. We are open Monday - Friday, 9:00-4:00 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday, 1-4 p.m. Want to keep updated? Submit your email address to become part of our Forest Family! |
