Fall 2007 Spring 2008 Update Status: February 3

I've decided to add some more types of familiars to the game. So far, I've added a cat and a mouse (some non-combat familiars). I may add a couple more, and I am thinking about adding a couple of new animal companions for druids and rangers.

The HAK file is almost ready. All the spells are scripted and descriptions written for them into the tlk file. Just a few minor file additions to make to the hak and it will be ready for uploading.

This update has now been renamed to the Spring 2008 Update. There is so much going into it that it is taking a little bit longer than anticipated. I am still working on it!

Additional Visual Effects (vfx):
The new visual effects are coming along nicely. Some are from other sources, such as the PRC, but there are also those that are original to Aenea. Testing them all out is currently underway, as is coding some of them into new spells (and others into older spells). These are just about finished...just locating a couple of missing texture files.

Adding Glowing Eyes and Horns:
This part is complete and ready to go. After the update, certain subraces will gain glowing eyes at times (such as vampires and wolfbloods), others (demon spawn) will sometimes wake up with horns (in addition to the wings and tail). Some spells will cause the caster's eyes to glow.

New Spells:
Many new spells in the works (see below for the list of all spells). Some are scripted, most have icons made. 2da files have been edited. Editing the tlk file is the last step (gotta type up all the spell descriptions).

Old Spells:
Several older spells are being altered. Some are getting new icons. Others are getting new/additonal/altered effects (like glowing white eyes for see invisibility). Some will require material components in order to cast them successfully.

Material Spell Components:
Many spells will require the caster to possess certain material components. Such components will then be "burned up" in the casting, removed from the caster's inventory. A great many of these components will be tiny, weightless items (such as a small piece of bark for barkskin). A few may be larger items (such as a normal short sword for mordenkainen's sword). Currently, 100% of these components have been made in the toolset and scripting the material components system is also 100% completed. I am now working on making sure the components are available in different places throughout Aenea.

Item Collecting:
I am implementing a new minor system for gathering small items (such as spell components) automatically. When this option is turned on (via the green PC Info crystal), you will take notice of small or odd things that could be useful as spell components or as a curiosity someone might want to show to someone else (think of the kender in Dragonlance). This is not just for spellcasters, since a wizard's party members might be keeping an eye out for this sort of thing.

Here's an example: You are a druid and need a bit of tree bark to cast your new barkskin spell. Turn on the "collecting" option with the PC Info crystal, then wander around in a forest or along the edges of wooded areas. There is a chance you might find just what your are looking for (and that item will be placed immediately in your inventory (no need to try to click on a tiny thing on the ground).

New Creatures:
I am now adding several new creatures to the mix, now that the CCP has come out with their content. I'm altering a few of their textures, then incorporating all the new appearances into the new hak file. That is why this update will eventually be one of the bigger haks.

Inventory:
Several small changes to inventory items. I'm adding new cork tops for potion bottles. I'm adding a new "tiny" item type, the same size as "small" items, but they don't weight anything and can stack up to 50 of each (so that most spell components don't actually weigh weak mages down). I'm adding a couple of wearable container item types (the belt of many pouches, perfect for holding spell components, is on the way). Several other items will now be stackable, such as rings (up to 5 of the same kind), and books (up to 3 of the same). Gems will be able to be placed in stacks of up to 50 (instead of just 10).
