Ocean Animal Research Report

Due: Friday, April 11

Each student has selected, or been assigned, an ocean animal as the topic of a research report.

Please follow this format:

1.     Use AT LEAST two diffrent sources (book, magazine, encyclopedia, website).
2.     List sources on a bibliography page at the end of the report.
3.     Research WRITTEN IN YOUR OWN WORDS
          So NO copy & paste work, even if changing some words. All of it in your own words.
          At least 2 pages in length
          Include
               name of the animal
               description of the animal
               unusual characteristics
               full scientific classification of the animal
               habitat of the animal (intertidal, estuary, open ocean), plus the zone it lives in
               what and how the animal eats
               what (if anything) eats the animal
               how it reproduces (eggs, live young, budding, etc)
               At least 2 other remarkable or interesting facts about the animal
          The report will be read aloud in class.
4.     This report may be hand written or typed.
5.     Include a cover sheet with a HAND-DRAWN picture of the animal.

Format for bibliography:

Pay attention to capitalization and punctuation.

Book:

author last name, author first name. book title. city of publication: publisher, year published.

Example:
Smith, John. Fake Book. Phoenix: Fake Publishers Co., 2008.

Article in Encyclopedia:

author last name, author first name. "article title." encyclopedia name, volume, page numbers. city of publication: publisher, year.

Example:
Smith, John. "Fake Articles." The Fake Encyclopedia, vol. 12, pp. 100-121. Phoenix: Fake Publishers Co., 2008.

Magazine Article:

author last name, author first name. "article title." magazine title, month year, page number.

Example:
Smith, John. "Fake Fish Fight for Freedom." Fake Tabloid Monthly, March 2008, p. 12.

Website:

author last name, author first name (if available). "web page/article title." web address. date of download/viewing.

Example:
"Tuna." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuna. March 26, 2008.
