Crideas Bane

Player:
daveyeisley

Preferred Play Style:
Mixed, leaning towards action/hack'n'slash

Class(es):
Wizard (Transmuter)

Favored Weapons/Spells:
Disintegrate and Flesh to Stone (To stone them, or to dust them... that is the question)

Description:
An average looking human male, with a well-trimmed red beard showing some hint of grey to go along with his slightly aging features. His eyes are blue, and often twinkle with mischief. His manner is kindly, and warm... he has a refreshing sense of humor. His attire is somewhat grandiose and gaudy... though stylish nonetheless. He favors full-length, high-collared, multi-hued Wizard's robes with various patterns, sigils, runes, and designs embroidered or inalid with gold. Despite this flambouyant mode of dress, his movements are not flashy, but rather simple and measured... he carries himself with a quiet strength of purpose.

Background:
Crideas Bane is a Human Wizard.

He is average in most ways... execpt perhaps for the joy he takes in acquiring and wearing "Wizardly" attire.

His wits are perhaps sharper than most, and his outlook is perhaps not what one might expect.

While he seeks power, as do most wielders of Arcane Energy... he has a strong sense of ethics as they regard to the responsible use of Magic. He sees magic as more than just some mysterious tool. To him, Magic is a living thing... with a mind, and emotions.

Magic is his partner, and his companion.... more to the point, Magic is his Lady... she guides him as much as she serves him and vice versa. He respects her, and appreciates works of beauty and artful creation thru her. Even so, he does not hesitate to hurl destructive energies in defense of his life, or the cause of good.

While he may also enjoy other persuits in his life and travels, Magic is at his core, in his mind, his heart and soul.

His past is average in most ways as well... but there sometimes comes a quiet sadness that falls on him... though he rallies his wits quickly, those moments are telling. Perhaps it is a sense of loss, perhaps a terrible guilt... or perhaps both.

It would seem that sadness has affected him deepy... given him strength to approach Magic in such a principled manner, one might even venture to call it Enlightened....

Memorable adventures:
It is said by wise men that "The journey is to be exalted... not the prize at its end".

There is great truth in this, but Crideas would be quick to point out the wonder and beauty of the joyful tears and thankful smile of little Ellen Mard when he rescued her from captivity in the depths of a goblin infested cave. To him, the joy in her eyes, and the smile on her face would be reason enough to face down the Lords of the Hells themselves, and the journey be damned.

Innocence and the hopes of the goodly folk are the most priceless and beautiful things humanity has to its credit, and life itself is a fair price to pay to preserve them... that said, all the better if one lives in the end.

Character's Goals:
Evil is eternal. It cannot be extinguished or eradicated. Crideas understands the cosmic balance, even if he has chosen to serve only one side of it. To drive back evil, and preserve a semblance of responsible order (though not a restrictive or oppressive order), are the best goals that can be carried by a man of conscience.

In the end, life and struggles may be for naught... but Ideals, Legends, and Hope are as eternal as the evil they oppose.

It may be too much to hope for immortality, and the strength to continue the struggle through the ages despite the burdens of time, but Crideas would indeed settle just for being remembered as one who sacrificed and struggled on behalf of those less able.

Favorite Thing About Aenea:
Its very difficult to choose just one thing. For me, I suppose the main thing that has addicted me, and captured my imaginaion, and driven me further to explore and experience this place is the *feel* of it. It doesn't grab you right away... you must relax yourself, dispense with expectations, and take your leisure to sort of let your mind "fall into" the place. Then you suddenly realize you are in a new "home" of sorts. It is, at the same time, both familiar and completely new. The details added, the logical interaction of various elements, its somehow deeply immersive and yet convenient enough to be enjoyable. So hard to describe how it makes me feel, but I hope that may have captured just a small portion of it, and done it justice.

How You Heard About Aenea:
I was enjoying myself on the first server I had ever played online... but then I had a bad experience with a DM there, and chose to stop playing there. I went looking for a new place to play, and found a forum post on the Bioware NWN boards by The Amethyst Dragon about Aenea. The website was so well done that it just gave me a thrill and I felt compelled to check it out, all the custom content that was advertised just looked awesome. Best decision I have made in my online gaming career.
