Items and Objects: Identification of Items Most items found in Aenea (rather than purchased) are, by default, unidentified. Such items can usually not be used until they are identified, and if sold in this state, are not worth as much money. The character's Lore skill can allow identification of items when they are examined, if said items are not too powerful or valuable. Identification of items in Aenea can take several paths. Examination: Right-clicking on an item and picking the "eye" icon will cause the character to examine the item, opening a window with the item's appearance, description, and possible properties visible. This relies on the character's Lore skill, modified by magic items, Intelligence modifier, and Bardic Lore ability. If the character does not have a high enough Lore skill check, the item remains unidentified. Merchants: Certain merchants have the ability to identify items in a character's inventory, via conversation. Such merchants charge 125 gold coins per unidentified item, as an up front expense (they use it for certain rare components). If the item is valued at 10,000 gp or less, it will be identified. If it more powerful than that, a merchant cannot identify the item (there is no refund). Altar to Kalas: Using an altar to Kalas (the god of knowledge), a character can sacrifice/donate 5,000 gold coins. Doing so will identify all items in his or her inventory at once. Accessing Remains: If a player character's Lore skill is high enough, opening a fallen foe's remains will automatically identify any non-magical items (those without extra properties), leaving only special items unidentified. |
