Bard Bard

Bards often serve as negotiators, messengers, scouts, and spies. They love to accompany heroes (and villains) to witness heroic (or villainous) deeds firsthand, since a bard who can tell a story from personal experience earns renown among his fellows. A bard casts arcane spells without any advance preparation, much like a sorcerer. His magic emphasizes charms and illusions, and the bard can also play an inspiring song that strengthens him and his allies. Bards also share some specialized skills with rogues, and their knowledge of item lore is nearly unmatched.

Aenea-Specific Information

Bard Songs: Bards in Aenea may select from 12 additional bard song feats during level-up.

Bard song feats, including the default Bard Song and Curse Song feats, are now standardized to 12 levels of power ("performance levels"), based on the performing bard's level and multiple Perform skill checks during the duration of the song.

This check is done every two rounds as the bard song continues, with effects on PCs and NPCs lasting two round and being reapplied only if they are within 30 feet of the bard when the songs cycle.

With the change to 2-round cycles for these songs, a PC bard can end his or her own bard song early with the VC command ;;tool endsong, preventing songs from continuing even when the bard has the Lingering Song and Lasting Inspiration feats.

Starting a new bard song will cancel the current one. A silence effect will prevent a bard song from starting, or will cancel a song in progress.

Creatures that are deafened or under a silence spell effect are unaffected by bard songs. If a bard song allows a saving throw or skill check to avoid it's effects, the difficulty class (DC) is 10 + the bard's Charisma modifier + the current performance level.

The 12 standardized performance levels of bard songs:
Bard Level 1 & Perform 1:
Bard Level 3 & Perform 6:
Bard Level 6 & Perform 9:
Bard Level 9 & Perform 12:
Bard Level 12 & Perform 15:
Bard Level 15 & Perform 18:
Bard Level 18 & Perform 21:
Bard Level 20 & Perform 25:
Bard Level 25 & Perform 30:
Bard Level 30 & Perform 40:
Bard Level 35 & Perform 50:
Bard Level 40 & Perform 60:

Spells: Bards have additional spells available to them for casting, and some spells may be changed from default NWN behavior.

If attempting to cast a spell while performing a bard song, the bard must succeed at a Concentration check, to simulate the difficulty of attempting to weave magical incantations within an ongoing song.. The difficulty class (DC) is equal to twice the level of the bard spell, plus twenty (or plus 30 if in combat). A 1st level spell outside of combat would have a DC of 22 ((1 x 2) + 20). That same spell in combat would have a DC of 32 ((1 x 2) + 30).
